Company History - PortsmouthFPT, formerly Fireproof Tanks Limited, was formed in 1939 to manufacture self-sealing coverings for metal fuel tanks of Military aircraft. This led to the development of flexible fuel tanks and associated products. In 1966 the Company became part of British Hovercraft Corporation and in 1979, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westland Group plc which is now part of the GKN organisation. FPT employs approximately 200 staff and occupies some 150,000 square feet of floor space. Facilities Located at Portsmouth Airport, the Company has engineering and research facilities, including Chemical and Material Laboratories, a Mechanical Development Department and Design Offices. The manufacturing resources of the Company include a full rubber processing facility, fabrication shops for fuel cells and inflatables, facilities for the production of rigid mouldings and specialist materials and details and a production testing Plant. To ensure a full and comprehensive service to customers, FPT operate a repair and overhaul facility for both their own and other manufacturers' like products at the Portsmouth Plant. Repair and overhaul facilities are operational in other parts of the world, if required. | |
